Australia Awards – Intake 2018


Before submitting an application for an Australia Awards Scholarship, applicants MUST read the Australia Awards Scholarships Policy Handbook  and the Nepal Country Profile. Australia Awards Nepal organizes free information seminars every Friday at 10:00 am and 2:00 pm in its office at Panipokhari. Information seminars will also be organised in Biratnagar (7 February), Pokhara (14 February), Nepalgunj (27 February), Dhangadhi (1 March) and Chitwan (28 March). What are Australia Awards Scholarships English Language Requirements?

Applications for Australia Awards Scholarships commencing in January 2018 will open on 1 February 2017 and will close on 30 April 2017, so now is the time to start preparing for your application, including ensuring that you satisfy the necessary English language requirements.

Australia Awards Scholarships in Nepal will be offered to undertake Masters study programs in the priority development sectors of Education, Livelihoods and Economic Development, Health, Governance (for Government of Nepal applicants only), Water Resource Management and Gender, Inclusion and Disability.

If you intend to apply for an Australia Awards Scholarship, you are encouraged to complete either an IELTS, TOEFL or PTE language examination well before your application is due.


To be eligible you must meet the following minimum standards in English language proficiency with results valid as at 1 January 2018:

  • IELTS (Academic): a minimum overall score of at least 6.5 with no band less than 6.0;
  • TOEFL: a minimum paper-based test score of at least 580, with a minimum of 4.5 in the test of written English or an internet-based TOEFL score of at least 92, with a minimum of 21 in all subtests; or
  • PTE: an academic overall score of 58 with no communicative skill score less than 50.

For women, persons with disability, members of traditionally marginalized groups or applicants from the public sector nominated by the Government of Nepal, an IELTS (Academic) average score of 6.0 or above (with no individual band less than 5.0) or equivalent score in TOEFL or PTE will be considered.
